Personal development (2020)

Colonel Roosevelt — Not as great as “The rise of Theodore Roosevelt”. A pass.

The Education of an Idealist — I could not make up my mind about this book. The beginning of the author’s life was mildly interesting with her alcoholic father and her mother’s decision to leave Ireland for the US. After that, it wasn’t boring enough for me to drop it but wasn’t that interesting either. If you are interested in a benign form of diplomacy, have a look.

The ride of a lifetime — This was a pretty good book. I recommend it. At times it seemed like Mr Iger is stopping himself from saying what he feels. At times, the book is too “sanitized”.

Invested — Unlike “The ride of a lifetime” this comes across as more lifelike. Truly enjoyed the ride Schwab took to create one of the most customer centric companies.

Red Notice — This was an amazing book. It was an attempt by the author to describe how he fought the politicians and the companies in Russia. Highly recommended.

Driving license

I started learning how to drive in February of this year. A bad time to start due to the Corona problem in March. Picked up again by end of June and did my first test in November. Albeit, I failed. The next test date is January.

Work changes

I was promoted in October of this year. This was something on my OKR for this year and I am super happy to have finally done it. It is a significant jump in work duties and opportunities. I am already managing people and I am excited to learn new things.

Fitness

This was a bad year for physical fitness. I bought bicycles and went for swimming in the lake for 6 days. And I have tried to stretch on and off during the day. But, all in all, I need more discipline here. Super hard to manage because I don’t have the will power to go through the day with a 15 month old, learning how to drive and changes at work. Personal life is also taking quite a lot of hit this year.
